About the position

You stand by the window and look out on the campus of the HAN University of Applied Sciences, home to your Balanced Energy Systems research group. Yesterday afternoon's symposium – on the role hydrogen can have as an energy carrier in the transition to reliable sustainable energy supply – has inspired you. When you dwell on the issue of what can be done locally in this area to relieve the grid, you also have the realisation that you and your team of researchers, teachers and students are going to help the industry in this unprecedented energy transition. As a small country within Europe, we have given ourselves the challenging task of going off gas. Of course, you have to keep nuancing in this area. But the fact is that businesses call you every day to hear your thoughts about the energy transition and how they can become more sustainable as effectively as possible. The steps you are now taking with both large companies and SMEs to extensively electrify our mobility and heat supply in buildings and industry make you proud. You are also proud that in the future, you will be able to say: Yes, I was there and I contributed. We have a climate agreement, and it is a necessity, so it must be done! And you are part of this. After this reverie, it is time to transfer what inspired you yesterday to the Master’s students who are now walking into the lecture hall.

Let us introduce ourselves:
We are the Academy of Engineering and Automotive of the HAN University of Applied Sciences. With around 300 colleagues, we offer internationally oriented full-time and part-time engineering and automotive education to over 2,600 students. Within the academy, we have three research group clusters – where leading applied research is conducted and where we have an excellent rating on our impact – and two national centres of expertise; ACE Mobility and SEECE. The position of Professor is linked to the Balanced Energy Systems research group cluster, which works closely with the SEECE centre of expertise for sustainable, reliable and affordable electrical energy supply. SEECE is a public-private partnership of businesses, institutions and various groups within HAN. This centre of expertise drives necessary innovation and ensures sufficient working capacity. The key values within our academy? That we continue to inspire each other, keep each other on our toes, solve problems, and aim for high results in the process.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a Professor whose passion and keen interest in the application of hydrogen will help shape the energy transition. Together with the research group, you will engage in knowledge development, knowledge dissemination and knowledge valorisation for innovations in the field of decentralised hydrogen applications. The focus of the research is on the application of hydrogen technology.

We are looking for a colleague who is more than aware of the research group's social mission and who will promote our vision both internally and externally. It is important that you are a connector and an entrepreneurial personality. You connect your research with the entire education system (MBO-HBO-WO) and you expand your network with businesses, governments and other parties in this domain. You are also in the lead within the research group to further develop the team on a personal level.

As a Professor:

  • You are the face of the academy, both in terms of content and in your representative role.
  • You are highly entrepreneurial and maintain a large network of businesses and institutions important within the grant process, knowledge building and dissemination.
  • You are a visionary, you carry HAN's vision in an enthusiastic and positive way and translate it into a clear vision towards the team.
  • You effectively and positively develop and foster professional relationships by bringing individuals and groups together.
  • You transfer your knowledge in the field to teachers, students and external organisations.

Criteria

In addition to the above, our ideal candidate is/has:

  • A PhD. You also have extensive knowledge of and experience in hydrogen technology and applications.
  • Business knowledge and experience which you combine with a technical background in, for example, engineering physics, mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • A person with demonstrable affinity with the social aspects of renewable energy.
  • Experienced in practice-based research within education. You know how to properly deal with various stakeholders and easily connect education, government and business.
  • Innovative and focused on concretely solving issues and problems.
  • Commercially and organisationally strong.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • A networker who comes with an extensive and relevant (inter)national network within the field, especially in the business community.

  • You contribute to international undergraduate and graduate education by giving lectures and supervising students.
  • You are involved in the “Hydrogen” thematic route, an educational track that runs across the various programmes.
  • You will contribute to the development and implementation of the educational and research vision, shaping the organisational structure and culture, and getting various work processes and funding under control.
  • You will acquire research projects and contribute to the external promotion of HAN.
  • You actively maintain your network.
